Halifax, NS (September 23, 2020) – Nova Scotians have only seven days left to purchase tickets in the IWK Foundation’s first-ever online 50/50 draw. This fundraiser offers a chance for the winning ticket to win, but most importantly for the kids at the IWK to win. The proceeds from the draw will support the most urgent care priorities at the IWK Health Centre.
The effects of COVID-19, physical distancing and gathering restrictions have greatly impacted the way that the IWK Foundation has been able to fundraise in 2020. As a result of the pandemic, many of the Foundation’s community events and fundraisers have been cancelled, most notably 100 Hours for the Kids, the IWK Foundation’s Radiothon and the 36th Annual IWK Telethon for Children. As a result the Foundation is trying new ways to fundraise and engage the community.
“COVID-19 has presented the IWK Foundation with dual emergencies; we are in a time when the IWK needs us to be nimble and flexible to provide funding, but at the same time, so many of our traditional fundraising events have been cancelled or postponed,” says Jennifer Gillivan, President & CEO, IWK Foundation. “We have heard loud and clear from Nova Scotians that they want to support the IWK. With this 50/50 draw, we can offer people an easy way to support the IWK from the comfort and safety of their own home.”
The draw is open to Nova Scotian residents, aged 19 or older. Tickets can be purchased online at iwk5050.ca. Ticket sales end on September 29 at 1:00 p.m. ADT. The draw will take place on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. and broadcast live on the IWK Foundation Facebook page, facebook.com/iwkfoundation.
