Chair Emeritus

David Fountain was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and resides there today. Graduating from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, he began his career in business as a stock broker with Pitfield Mackay Ross in Halifax. After several years in this position he became an Investment Advisor with the firm Brown Brothers Harriman in New York City. He is currently a private investor. As a volunteer David has served on the boards of The National Ballet of Canada, The Neptune Theatre, where he was also President of the Board and served as the chair of the three most recent Artistic Director search committees, The Nova Scotia International Air Show, where he also served as Board Chair, Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and The Banff Centre, in Banff, Alberta. He first joined the board of the IWK Foundation in 1998 and has served as the chair of two capital fund raising campaigns for the IWK. The recently-completed Breakthroughs in Care campaign raised over $50 million from private sector donors.

The organization we serve has an outstanding reputation, not only for the quality of health care it provides, but for the compassion and sensitivity with which it is delivered. When asking others to donate to this very worthy cause, the case for support which I sometimes use is a simple one; 'It's for the IWK.'
