Carter

Weighing only one pound 15 ounces at birth, baby Carter from Mineville, Nova Scotia made his debut into the world 14 weeks early, at just 26 weeks gestation.

His mom, Sarah, came to the IWK when she experienced some bleeding - a cause for concern for this first-time mom. Sarah was quickly admitted and put on immediate bed rest for the night, but Carter was born the next day. He was admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at the IWK.

We wouldn't be where we are today without donor support and of course the amazing staff here in the NICU.

Now six weeks old, Carter weighs 3 pounds 5 ounces and is doing great! Sarah's wish for her son is to grow up to be a healthy and active young boy.

He is getting stronger every day thanks to the life-saving equipment donors, like you, helped purchase - including the phototherapy blanket that treated his jaundice, the ventilator that helps him breathe, the patient monitors tracking his vital signs and the smart pumps that deliver precise amounts of medication. These are all examples of the impact of donor generosity on patients who rely on the IWK for care.

His family is forever thankful.
