Nathan Toner

Nathan Toner was inspired to raise funds for the IWK Foundation after he and his wife, Ashlee, had to take their newborn son, Myles, to the IWK’s Emergency Department in December 2021.

At 15 days old, Myles became very sick with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms, and bacterial pneumonia, which is an infection of one or both lungs.

Myles was so sick that he stopped breathing shortly after arriving at the IWK. But thankfully, he was where he needed to be to get the very best care for the best possible outcome.

Myles was admitted to the IWK and spent 10 days at the IWK receiving specialized care until he fully recovered and was well enough to return home with his parents and his older sister, Lucy.Nathan Toner and his kids holding cheque

For Nathan, the advanced care his son received at the IWK over those 10 days impacted him deeply and inspired him to support the IWK. That’s why he started two charity events called Golf for a Cause and Curl for a Cause.

The first annual Golf for a Cause in 2022 raised $4,000, while the second event raised $4,350. The first annual Curl for Cause raised $4,500. To date, all three events have raised an outstanding $12,900 for the IWK Foundation!

“Giving is not just about making a donation,” says Nathan. “It’s about making a difference.”

Thank you to Nathan Toner for his ongoing generous support and to everyone who has donated and participated in the golf and curling events! The funds raised from these events will help fund the urgent priority needs of the IWK, such as purchasing new and advanced medical equipment, funding programs or leading-edge research or upgrading care spaces and technology.
